Long
Division Director
Technical Revision No. 29,
Cessation of Slope Stability Monitoring
(Permit No: C-82-OS'n
Seneca Coal's TR-29 includes a request to cease stability
monitoring of the cut slopes of Pond 005 and cut and fill slopes
adjoining Haul Road G.
The application presents the monitoring data collected for the
first year. As the operator states, only one monument demonstrated
appreciable movement, "Monument MS - 14+25", which they attribute
to a survey error. Since the three adjoining monuments in the
14+00' transect show no movement I accept their explanation.
I recommend that we approve Seneca Coal's request with the
following two conditions. (1) The monuments be surveyed and
reported once more in late June, following the normal wet season.
(2) the monuments be kept in place so that they can be surveyed
in the future if any question regarding movement were to arise.
cc: Larry Routten
Steve Renner
Doc: M:\COAL\JAP\IIWCEASE.MON
JP/JP
