The Rules
contain the complete text of rules referenced throughout this document. The review is of the
Perini[ of February 28, 1997 and the associated Perini[ Application Package (three volumes).
(The Perini[ and the Permit Application Package are collectively referred to as the PAP in this
document.) However, previous permits, findings, reviews, files of the Division, and reports were
researched as were appropriate to the review.
The Coal Ridge No. 1 Mine, an underground mine, is located in Garfield County, Colorado,
approximately 7 miles west of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The mine is just south of the
Colorado River, and borders a section of County Road 335 approximately 1.5 mile east of the I-
70 Newcastle interchange (Exit 105).
The PAP describes an operation much lazger than was experienced or is now anticipated due to
premature closure of the mine. The Division does not require revision of the description of
operations to reflect actual or currently anticipated operations, so long as currently envisioned
actions are within the scope of approved operations.
Acronyms
Application See PAP (used interchangeably in this review)
ARR Annual Reclamation Report
CDPHE Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (Water Quality Control
Division Permit Section)
CDPS Colorado Discharge Permit System
Division Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
NPDES National Pollution Discharge Elimination System
PAP Permit Application Package.
