Letter to R. Gabrielson 2 February 18 1994
have to waive your right to a 30 day decision (obviously, the notifications will take
more than 30 days), and you must remove an equal amount of undisturbed ground from some
other portion of the permitted acreage (an increase in total permit acreage would
require a.permit amendment). Please refer to the attached internal Division memorandum
for details.
In any cave, the Division will require additional information regarding the proposal
to drain the quarry pit at the southeast corner, including:
a. Dimensions of the proposed channel - in terms of length, width, depth, and croes-
sectional configuration.
b. Reclamation considerations - ie the channel going to continue to drain the pit
after quarry closure, or will it be back-filled and vegetated? What portion of
the channel length will be mined through?
c. The Division assumes from the topography and geology information supplied, that
the .proposed channel will be cut into bedrock and will be deep enough that it
will be able to pass any magnitude storm event non-erosively and without over
topping. Please confirm this assumption or provide additional details.
d. Regardless of the statements in item "c" above, the Division is concerned with
the outlet of any proposed surface water control channels or ditches that are
routfed to natural channels. Please provide a demonstration that channel or ditch
outlets can pass anticipated flows to natural channels non-erosively, or submit
ditch outlet upgrade designs if needed. The channel or ditch outlets should be
designed for a 10 year - 24 hour storm event for temporary (life of mine)
structures, and for the 100 year - 24 hour event for channels that will remain
after reclamation.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
~ i
A11en C. Sorenson
Reclamation Specialist
ACS/acs
enclosure(s)
C:~WPSI~WEAVER
