S
--. - 999
''~~Q __ STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTON, DlreMOr
DATE: February 19, 1987
T0: Gregg Squire
FROM: Jeff Deckler ~~
RE: EMPIRE MID-TERM, FILE C-81-044
I took a look through the Empire permit to see if they provided any mass
balances. I did not find any, either in the pa~rts~ of the narrative I read or
in the Table of Contents (List of Tables). T e ly thing I found was a
statement that there is room for storage of 1.2 mil. c.y. of refuse, and this
represents enough storage space for at least 10-15 years. This being the
case, we would be able to postpone the issue if we wanted to. Also, I suppose
that a case could be made that if there was enough material to fill the No. 9
Mine portal excavation in the old plan, then there should certainly be enough
material to cover the refuse after the excavation is filled. So, this may not
be a serious issue. The one point that we do need to look into is the 4 feet
of cover on the "old" refuse pile. Based on their volume estimates in Section
2.05, the requirement for 4 feet of cover would result in a deficit of
approximately 50,000 cy of material. Empire should identify a contingency
source for this material if needed.
JHD/ddt
7604E
n~
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
