1 i
' Appendix C, indicate that all four samples passed the shear test, and the two wedge weld
samples (DT2, DT3) passed the peel test. Sample DT1 (extrusion weld simple) failed the
peel test because one of the specimens exhibited a peel strength of 43 lbrin. As a result,
the second extrusion weld sample (DT4) was collected along the same ~eam. The three
' specimens from sample DT4 all exhibited acceptable peel strengths (90 ~Ib/in, 100 lb/in,
and 98 Ib/in).
' Liner Anchoring
' The eastern edge of the installed liner was anchored in a trench excavated at the pond
perimeter (see Drawing 1) in accordance with the specifications contained in the
' Conceptual Design Report. The liner extended a minimum of one foot vertically and two
feet horizontally into the trench. Backfill was placed in [he trench an~l compacted to
' anchor the liner.
' The northern, southern, and western edges of the installed liner were lied into to the
existing liner system by extrusion welding. The approximate locations) of these tie-in
' seams are shown on Drawing 1. For added protection against leakage ~om the ponds,
the existing liner was placed on top of the new liner a[ the tie-in seams Along the pond
' side slopes.
' Liner Repair
All liner repairs were performed using patch material consisting of r~mnants of the
' textured HDPE geomembrane to seal any holes in [he liner panels and long the liner
seams, including holes created during non-destructive and destructive seapn testing. All
' patches extended a minimum of six inches beyond the perimeter of the ~idamaged area.
All patches were extrusion welded and vacuum tested at 5 psi minimum va~uum.
' Liner Protection
A rub sheet consisting of textured 60-mil HDPE geomembrane was pl~ced along the
bottom of New Pond 2 and New Pond 3 to provide extra protection again~t liner tearing
' or puncture in the event that heavy machinery is used for sludge removal. In addition, a
remnant of/<-inch thick conveyor belt was placed in the sump area of Nei Pond 3.
