that it occurs in adobe hills which aze well below the elevation of activities associated
with this project.
Slender cotton grass (Eriophonun gracile) is listed by the Forest Service as sensitive, but
habitat conditions suitable for this species are lacking.
SUMMARY
No Federally-listed or State listed Threatened or Endangered Species that could
potentially occur within this portion of the Gunnison National Forest would be adversely
impacted by construction of drill site locations and access roads because little or no
suitable habitat would be affected. The only management indicator species observed were
red-naped sapsuckers and elk. Sapsuckers were commonly observed in aspen stands and
elk, or evidence of their presence, were observed throughout the project azea.
There will only be a small amount of habitat lost during road and drill pad construction.
Considering that thousands of acres of all habitat types found within the study area exist
in the region, there is a very low risk of any impacts to any species. As drill sites and
roads aze reclaimed these areas will actually create more habitat diversity, which will
benefit more species of birds and other wildlife.
