Long,
Division Director
Per our conversation on August 18, 1992, it is my understanding you are going to
move in a portable asphalt batch plant to process about 4,500 tons of material.
You intend to wash the aggregate prior to processing it and send the waste water
to a lined pit so it will evaporate. You indicated you will store the raw asphalt
material on site in a tanker truck but will not stockpile the finished product lit will
be hauled away as it is produced).
We briefly discussed a couple of concerns I have. I need to know the dimensions
of the evaporative pit, and a narrative statement on how you intend to close it
during final reclamation operations, so I can determine if there will be any
additional reclamation costs. My second concern is how you will handle the clean-
up of any accidental spill of raw asphalt material (if it occursl and how you intend
to dispose of waste material from the process. There are some potential
environmental concerns here that need to be addressed so I would suggest you
contact your county Land Use Department and the Colorado Department of Health
to see if additional permits are needed for your new operation.
Sincerely,
~ ~~
James Dillie
Reclamation Specialist
JD/yjb
m:\oss\yjb\hawk.ltr
