Mathews, Routten
Page 4
January 7, 1999
River Basin. These may be applicable if Ward Creek eventually discharges to the Colorado River.
With respect to surface water impacts, I think it would be reasonable to verify the PHC predictions
by looking atavailabledataforWazdCreek. Has the operatorverifiedthepredictedimpactstoWazd
Creek? If the data are available, we and/or the operator should check and see if the PHC predictions
are consistent with baseline and recent data from Ward Creek.
Finally, the Red Canyon Mine Piezometer Abandonment Report was reviewed and determined to
be generally in compliance with our rules and was deemed acceptable as submitted. On page 130
of the bond release application, drill hole abandonment for holes not completed to aquifers is
discussed. However, there is no discussion of well abandonment for holes that intercepted aquifers.
There should be some mention of this in the bond release application. Reference to the Piezometer
Abandonment Report or inclusion of the report into the bond release application would suffice. The
remaining four wells (A-(,A-2, E-1, and R-3) will need to be reclaimed prior to bond release.
c: David Berry
