EXHIBIT D RECEIVEp
MINING PLAN Divl N~V ~ ~ inns
sion of Reclamation,
Mining and gafety
Operation Overview
Historical Operation Areas: This site has and continues to be a source of gravel for El
Paso County and the Colorado Department of Highways. It is also used by several
private contractors as a source of gravel for roadway and other types of construction. The
oldest mined areas are near the north easterly comer of the site.
Affected Land included in this Operation: This amendment application seeks to add area
to the permit boundary which lies to the west and south of the existing permit boundary.
The amendment is to facilitate the expansion of the pit.
The permitted area and the effected area will be amended by this application in order to
expand the mining area.
Methods of Mining: The pit is still managed by the permittee. The permittee allows the
extraction of materials from the pit by others parties. The removed materials are used to
construct, re-surface and otherwise maintain the many miles of gravel roadway in the
county and for site work at various construction sites in the county.
The operation of the site is consistent in its nature and will continue to be. Material is
excavated using a front end loader(s) and placed in trucks. Material is removed from the
working face of the pit. Processing of the material will take place on site to improve
gradation and better meet various project specifications. The overall result is a relatively
small physical working area for exposing the working face, a truck turn around area, the
processing area and the use of stock piles.
The current access to the site is from Curtis Road. The entrance is just to the south of the
intersection of Curtis Road and Garrett Road. The entrance is closed and locked during
periods of inactivity. There is access to rangeland owned by the permittee through this
entrance; however the primary use is for the gravel pit.
