Observed Effects of Project, Environment Affected, Potential Future Effects:
Road was previously unpaved before mining quarry upgraded it in
April 1999. The previous-existing low-water crossings typically
washed out at least once a year.
Downstream crossing has 2 small culverts. Upstream crossing has
1 small culvert. Both crossings plug up with sediment. When the
lower crossing is blocked, the stream backs up and floods out of
bank, dropping 3' of fines, sand, and gravel in the stream channel
and 3' of sand and gravel in out-of-bank areas. When the upper
crossing is blocked, the stream backs up dropping up to 1' of fines
and sand in the stream channel. It then floods across the road and
erodes the channel.
9.
