Mining Plan
• mined but not reclaimed, is yet to be mined, or is by normal transportation corridors and was
previously disturbed. Stockpiling will not occur on undisturbed land.
Dispensing Products: Products are dispensed from the stockpiles by loading it into
trucks. Usually the trucks are supplied by the customer. The rock is weighed at a scale at the
main Castle Concrete offices just east of the quarry and on the access road.
Processing Plant Locations: Under the existing plan, it was expected that the processing
plant would need to be moved toward the south end of the operation when that area was mined.
Under this plan, however, it is not expected that the processing plant will ever need to be
moved. Although the haul distance from Area MS is marginal economically, there is probably
not going to be enough rock mined from that area to warrant the expense of moving the plant.
WASTE DISPOSAL AND BACKFILLING
Temporary Disposal: Waste produced from the processing of the limestone will be
• temporarily stored in locations that do not interfere with other operations. Storage will not occur
on reclaimed land or on undisturbed land. This temporary storage should reach a stable volume
as waste will be frequently drawn from these temporary storage piles for use in reclaiming
finished benches and backfilling Areas MS and H. If possible, storage of waste will be done
near the location where it will be used. This particularly applies to Areas MS and H.
The actual volume of temporarily stored waste at any one time cannot be predicted
because of the complexity of bench production and Hole excavation. But temporarily storing
more than about 50,000 to 75,000 cubic yards may not be feasible considering the limited
amount of room available for temporary storage. Sometimes, more may be stored, so these
amounts are not necessarily the limit. Those volumes are probably a representative average.
Although some sale of waste may occur, this will be kept to a minimum so there is sufficient
waste at the end of the operation to complete the backfilling of the Hole. This aspect is more
specifically discussed in the Reclamation Plan (Exhibit E).
Permanent Disposal: Most of the waste produced by the operation will be used in
reclaiming the site. Calculations show that, based upon the rate of waste production and the rate
of need for use in reclamation, the volumes are fau•ly well balanced at most times. Initially there
. may be more waste produced than is needed for bench backfilling, but once Area MS is well
along, the production and bacld-ill needs should nearly balance.
Pikeview Quarry Amendment Exhibit D Page 27
