Mining Plan
end of the site. Uses in this lease area are limited to only surface uses as roads and topsoil •
stockpiles. No miming can or will occur in this 20 acre parcel. It is not expected that any
additional disturbances will be made in this area, but not much more reclamation can be done
either, at least until the end of the operation.
Area RN - The letters RN refer to "Reclamation North." This portion of the site
is a previous mining area. It is currently under reclamation with backfilling proceeding. Under
the existing plan this area would have been expanded both northward and westward. This
amendment removes that from the plan. No additional mining will occur in this area. It will
be the first portion of the actual quarry that will be reclaimed. Any further expansion of the
disturbance edge irr this area will only be for the purpose of blending the existing topography
with the reclamation topography. That expansion, if done at all, should not exceed about 20 to
30 feet from the existing disturbance limit. Probably no expansion will be needed, but provision
has been made to allow for that blending if it is necessary. None of this blending, if done, will
extend more than a couple feet below the surface and no limestone will be removed. Included
in this area is a major soil stockpile primarily composed of soil donated from outside the site.
Area RB -The letters RB refer to "Reclamation Benches. " This is a historical area •
and essentially identifies the older benched land. This area has also been called the North
Terraces, North Benches, and Previously Mined Benched Land. No more mining will occur in
this area. Its inclusion in the plan is for purposes of completing the reclamation.
Area MV - The letters MV literally refer to "Mining Visual," but could also be
called "Visible Mining." This unit is defined because of the strong emphasis in the Reclamation
Plan on the visual impact of mining. This land has yet to be mined and will be mined using the
new bench production techniques described later in this exhibit. This area will have the most
visual impact with future mining of the quarry.
Area MS - The letters MS refer to "Mining South." Although this could have
been included in Area MV, the result of the reclamation will be rather different here than it will
be in Area MV. Also, because the rock structure in this area differs from that in Area MV there
is a distinction in nnining techniques as well. Mining in this area will be visible, but the visual
impact characteristics, especially after reclamation, will be quite different from Area M V. Thus,
this portion of the site warrants a separate area designation.
Area H - The letter H stands for "Hole." This area roughly defines the limits
of the overexcavati~on Hole to be created at the base of the quarry backwall (Areas RB and MV).
It is this excavation that will allow the removal of so much undisturbed land from the plan. •
Page 8 Pikeview Quarry Amendment Exhibit D
