H. Wildlife Inhabitants: As part of the application process we are required to work with the
Colorado Division of Wildlife. We have done all of the appropriate wildlife studies and the
Division of Wildlife has made suggestions for reclamation to improve the wildlife habitat in
the area. We continue to operate other pit sites that are in other wildlife habitat areas and
have been for several years. We continue to see an abundance of wildlife in these areas,
and in fact, the wildlife does not appear to be affected by these operations. The deer
continue to move around the machines, at times walking through the plant site while
equipment is running. Through reclamation at these sites we are creating more abundant
native grasses for the wildlife to feed on.
I. Quality of Life, location, close proximity to Calhan: We do not intend to have a large impact
on the residents of this area. As mentioned earlier, we do several things during our mining
to limit the visual and noise impacts to those around us while still maintaining the ability to
supply quality_materials to those in.the construction industry. This pit has operated for the
past several years with very little impact to the surrounding area. The location works very
well for the maintenance of the roads in the Calhan area. As well, the expansion can
provide jobs for the residents of the Calhan area. This will also have economic impacts,
providing money collected from the tax assessment to the town of Calhan, area schools,
and the Fire Protection District.
In closing, Rocky Mountain Materials and Asphalt, Inc. works very diligently to ensure that our
operations blend in, as well as possible, to the surrounding areas. We want to be a good
neighbor in this area. We strive to be a very environmentally friendly operation and will
continue to do so in the future. This can not be done by just one person, we make this the
responsibility of all of our employees and have policies in place to ensure that any issue can be
addressed 24 hours per day, every day of the week. Please feel free to contact Rob Mangone
at 719-491-3103 or myself at 791-491-3116 at anytime to discuss any concerns about this
facility. We are very willing to sit down with you and discuss this operation.
Sincerely,
.~'~t~~
Tom Smith
Director of Quarry Operations
Rocky Mountain Materials & Asphalt, Inc.
