Clayton ~i1~1
RE: Marr Strip, C-80-006, Revised Permit Application
In their response to the Division's mid-term review, Kerr Coal has submitted
a revised permit application. This application was studied and its changes
evaluated in the geology, new pond and ditch designs, Dost-mining drainage and
water rights sections. Adequacy questions are included at the end of each
section.
GEOLOGY
The general topography of the mine plan area consists of broad rolling ridges,
gently sloping valleys and steep localized erosional features. A prominent ~ I
ridgeline runs in a northerly direction paralleling the mine pits in the '
southern portion of the mine permit area. This ridgeline flattens and turns f
to the northwest near the center of the property. In the northern section of
the property, this ridge is cut by several ephemeral and intermittent stream
cnannels producing broad sloping valleys.
The mine permit area is located in the eastern part of a large physiographic
area known as North Park. Tnis is a structural and topographic basin
bounded to the north by the Independence Mountain fault, to the east by the
Front and Medicine Bow Range, to the south by Middle Park and to the west by
the Park Range.
IJumerous small anticlines and synclines occur in North Park as a general
structure called the North Park Buntline. This synclinal structure has a
NW-SE strike and plunges to the SE. The Marr Strip Mine is located along the
western flank of a member of this system called the Johnny Moore Sm cline.
This is one of the smaller synclines in North Park. Its strike is nearly
N-S at the Idarr Strip Mine. Its strike rotates to a NW/SE orientation in
the northern part of the mine plan area. It is asymmetrical in form with the
dip of the western flank being much steeper. The western flank's dip average
from 45 to 86 degrees, steepening towards the north. The eastern flank has
di DS ranging from 26 to 45 degrees, steepening towards the north.
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel. (303) 866-3567
