In addition, EFCI hereby submits responses to question nos. 20, 23, and 25 of
the Mid-Term Review. Following are responses to the Mid-Term Review questions (in comment-
response format) subject to this minor revision:
10. With the elimination of pond 1 fur use as a sediment control device, please provide a plan
for how runofffrom the sediment pond 1 watershed will be contained during bacldilling and
regrading of the facilities area to prevent offsite impacts. Please provide text and SEDCAD
demonstrations as necessary.
Response:
Pond 1 is an incised pond, without an embankment, sized to fully contain the runoff from a
24-hour, 25-year storm event. The existing surface azea to the east (downstream direction)
of the pond area is higher than the crest of the pond, and higher than the facility yard area
to the west of the pond. The elevations aze shown on Map 18, Mine Facilities.
When Pond 1 is completely backfilled, any runoff within the Pond 1 watershed will flow
from the existing location of Pond 1 towazds the west and into the limits of the Pond 5
watershed. This flow direction for runoff from the Pond 1 watershed area is consistent with
that shown for the post-mining configuration on Map 28, Mine Area Post-Mining
Topography. Therefore, because of the existing topography, any runoff from the Pond 1
watershed occumng after backfilling Pond 1 will be contained within Southfield's drainage
and sediment control system.
