-~ - ~ ~ iiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiii •
999
Apri123, 2001
Mr. Frank Knutson,
General Manager and Executive Vice-President
Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc.
P.O. Box 33695
Denver, Colorado 80233 - Ob95
Re: Morgan County's Vancil Gravel Pit
Dear Mr. Knutson:
Morgan County is submitting a permit application to the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology, requesting that they be allowed to expand their gravel mining operation is
the Yancil Ptt. One of the requirements in the permitting process is that Owners of
Permanent Man-Made Structures within 200 feet of the permitted area be notified of the
Applicants intentions and that documentation be obtained stating that said Owners have
ao major objections to the requested permit. We understand that you are the Owners of
the transmission line and towers located in Section 9, T.SN., R.56W. of the 6'" P,M., on
property owned by Kevin and Stephanie R. Warboys. This line and a couple of the
towers will be within 200 feet of ow proposed permitted area. We are therefore
requesting a letter from Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc.
confirming that they have no objections to this permit.
The Power line is located .approximately 150 feet south of the property line fence
between Warboys and Vancil. This fence will be the south boundary of the permitted
area. There will be a 50-foot buffer between this fence and any subsequent new
excavation, and approximately 200-feet between the new excavation and yow towers.
The gravel pit is located in the Southwestl/4 of Section 4, Township 5 North, Range 56
West of the 6's Principal Meridian, Morgan County, Colorado. The property can be
reached by traveling approximately 11 miles north of Ft. Morgan on S.H, 52 to Morgan
County Rd. EE. Tum east on Rd. EE and travel approximately 8 miles to Morgan
County Rd. 26. Turn South on Rd., 26 for approximately 1 mile to the haul road for the
Vancil Pit.
Gravel has been mined from this area for many years. The Cottnty has had mining
permits here since 1977. The gravel deposit in their current permitted arra will soon be
depleted and they wish to expand their excavation into the adjacern gravel deposits north
and east of this current area.
The County's previous and present gravel operations don't seem to have created any
problems for yow lines or rowers. They plan to mine and reclaim the new area in a
manner similar to the past operations, therefore they don't anticipate that mining in this
expar-ded area will create any problems for the power line either.
