• -6_
Hydrocompactive soils are con.-mon in areas with loosely
deposited alluvial fan or collu~ial soils. Clays may also
exhibit expansion potential, probably caused by shrinkage due to
desiccation. Methods to construct foundations on ttre soils at
the site are discussed in "Foundation Recommendations" below,
The potential for construction induced slope instability can
be reduced by limiting cut and fill depths and providing rela-
tively flat graded slopes. At this site we would expect cuts and
fills graded to about 1.75 horizontal to 1 vertical and flatter
to generally be stable, provided they are properly constructed
and drained. Methods to mitigate potential slope instability and
erosion at the site are discussed in the "Site Grading" section.
The debris flow potential at the site was reported as low. A
hydrologist should evaluate the surface flow conditions. Our
preliminary goetechnical report recommended structures be de-
signed to Unified E3uilding Code :one II criteria. Our previous
report should be referred to for a more detailed description of
the geologic conditions.
FIELD INVESTIGATION
The field exploration for the project was conducted on
September 27 through October 2, 19x5. Eleven exploratory borings
were drilled at the locations shown on Fig. 1 to evaluate the
subsurface conditions. The number of holes and their locations
were specified by the client. Drilled locations and surface
elevations of the exploratory borings were determined by
Schmueser ~ Associates. Access to most of the boring sites
Chen & Associates
