Substation Expansion and GroundinP Upgrade:
Permit C-82-056
TCC is requesting a minor revision to the above-referenced permit to allow the expansion of
substation #1 and upgrading of the grounds at substations 2, 3, 4 and a number of existing
powerline poles. These measures will help avoid power outages which have occurred in the past
as a result of lightning strikes.
The expansion of substation 1 will entail the following:
1. Placement of a temporary powerpole to the west of the current substation to allow
rerouting of wires from a pole within the substation;
2. Material in a 30' X 50' area will be excavated down to bedrock on the west end of the
existing substation to allow installation of a ground mat. Material will then be placed
back on top of the ground mat, followed by a layer of sand and a layer of gravel;
3. For the expansion, a concrete slab measuring 22 feet by 15 feet will be constructed, and
transformer(s) and switches will be placed on this slab.
4. Within the substation, 2 power poles will be placed on the west end to support capacitors
and fuses for the substation's high voltage lines. The substation will then be fenced to
restrict access.
Drainage control for the substation will remain unchanged except for the existing culvert having
an extension welded on to allow backfilling and pad construction adjacent. Location of the
proposed substation expansion is shown on enclosed Map 24 (Surface Facilities and Freshwater
Systems).
