NOTICE OF PROPOSED DECISION
The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology proposes to approve Technical Revision Application
No. 18 (TR-18) for the Bowie No. 2 Mine (Permit No. C-1996-083), submitted by Bowie Resources
Limited. Approval of this technical revision would allow a change in the approved mine plan. The
change would permit longwall mining in the western portions of two longwall panels, within the currently
approved permit boundary. The proposed limited longwall mining would occur in private and federal
coal. The federal coal is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The right of entry to the. federal
coal has been obtained through the approved Iron Point Tract Federal Coal Lease COC-61209. About
904,000 tons of private coal and 286,000 tons of federal coal are involved in this revision. No new
surface disturbance would occur, although subsidence of the surface will take place with longwall mining.
The Bowie No. 2 Mine is an underground coal mine located in Delta Counry, approximately 5 miles
northeast of Paonia, Colorado. Coal interest is Private, and the surface affected is Private land. The
permit area encompasses approximately 2,850.00 acres.
This proposed decision is based on a finding that the proposed operation will comply with all
requirements of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act, Section 34-33-101, e[ seq., C.R.S.,
and the regulations promulgated thereunder.
Copies of the proposed decision, including stipulations, aze on file for public inspection at the Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology, Room 215, Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver,
Colorado 80203. Persons with an interest that may be adversely affected by the proposed decision may
request a formal hearing before the Mined Land Reclamation Board on the proposed decision. Such
request must be made within ten (l0) days of the initial publication of this notice, must be in writing, and
must state with reasonable specificity the reasons for the request and the objections to the proposed
decision.
