<br />nesting habitat is not available in or near the review area. <br />Loggerhead shrike, ILanius /udovicianusl, Federal category 2 species, use has not been recorded on <br />the review area. Potential breeding and nesting habitat is present. Loggerhead shrikes are <br />dependant upon the sagebrush and gambel oak shrub communities for breeding and nesting habitat <br />in this region, during spring and summer. Tfieir presence in this region during winter is uncommon. <br />None of the following listed fishes occur on the review area, or in the North Fork of the Gunnison <br />River: <br />Bonytail chub (Gi/a e/epansl Federal & State Endangered <br />CO River squawfish (Ptychochei/us /uciusl Federal & State Endangered <br />Humpback chub (Gila cyphal Federal & State Endangered <br />Razorback sucker (Xyrauchen texanusl Federal & State Endangered <br />However, the Upper Colorado River Basin, of which the North Fork of the Gunnison River is a <br />tributar/, does support populations of these fish. The squawfish and razorback sucker have been <br />known to occur in the lower Gunnison River. <br />River otters, (Lutra canadensisl, State Endangered species, are not known to be present on the <br />review area, however, the North Fork of the Gunnison River is considered suitable habitat. A <br />population exists in the Gunnison Gorge 20 miles southwest of the proposed lease tract and <br />migration from the Gorge to the proposal area is possible. <br />Although it is possible for lynx, IFe/is /ynxl, State Endangered species, to occur in the region they <br />are not known to be present on the review area. The range of lynx in Colorado is believed to be <br />confined to coniferous forests above 9,000 feet. <br />Grand Mesa Penstemon, lPenstemon mensaruml, Federal category 2 species, is known to occur in <br />the Hawksnest drainage approximately 15 miles from the tract. It's presence on the review area is <br />unconfirmed, but possible.
