Pond B Geotechnical Report and Material Storage Shed
Dear Mr. Rudin:
The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordancewith Title 34, Article 33, Section 116, Paragraph 4,
of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on March 24, 2000, an application to revise coal mining operations at the Bowie No. 2
Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by Bowie Resources Limited. All
review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing.
Approval of this technical revision would slightly modify the designs aUeady approved in Permit Revision No. 3 for the
proposed new Pond B. Based on the results of a geotechnical stability report, the construction of the pond will be changed so
that a pond cut slope and the pond embankment inslopes will be slightly Planer. The pond volume would increase by 0.19
acre-feet as a resu It of the redesign. In addition, this technical revision would provide for the construction of a msterial storage
shedjust north ofthe main topsoil stockpile.
The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 5 miles northeast of Paonia, Colorado. The permit
area is furtherdescribedas follows:
Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, I I, 14, I5, and 16, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie.
A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Paonia Public Library, 140 Grand Avenue,
Paonia, CO, and at the Division office. For additional information or to provide written comments, contact the Division of

with regulatory time frames, we request that comments be submitted within fifteen (I S) days of this letter. If no comments are
