Long
Division Dueaor
I have reviewed the response to our adequacy comments submitted by Mountain Coal Company
(MCC) for their Permit Revision No. PR-07. This revision proposes expansion of their surface
facilities area into upper Sylvester Gulch at the West Elk underground coal mine in the North
Fork of the Gunnison River Valley. MCC proposes to construct two ventilation shafts to their
workings in the B-Seam. These shafts, intake (34' diameter) and exhaust (28' diameter), will
penetrate approximately 700 feet in depth. In addition, MCC proposes to install ancillary
facilities, including an electrical substation, an electric bore to deliver electrical power to the B-
Seam workings, a power line to power the substation, and various light-use and haul access
roads to access the facilities. The Division issued it's adequacy comments to MCC in January.
MCC subsequently submitted responses to our adequacy comments. I have concentrated my
review upon the information submitted in response to adequacy comments which I authored
regarding geotechnical topics.
Attachment:
cc: Dave Berry
Susan McCannon
Doc: M:\COAL\JAP\MTG1PR07.SUP
JP/jp
