Lone <br />Division Director <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, <br />Article 33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on October O5, <br />1998, an application to renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the <br />Colorado Coal Mine No. 1 was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All review and <br />comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules <br />initiate from this date of filing. <br />Kaiser Ventures, Inc. proposes to continue surface coal m;n;ng and/or reclamation <br />operations on land located approximately 4 miles northwest of Walsenburg. The permit area <br />is further described as follows: <br />4 Miles NW of Walsenburg <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of <br />Walsenburg North. <br />The mine site has been reclaimed and has successfully completed a Phase II bond release. <br />Renewal of the permit will be for completion of the reclamation of the site, which consists of a <br />demonstration that the site meets the revegetation requirements of the approved permit. <br />Additional mining or disturbance is not proposed. <br />A copy of the renewal application is available for public inspection at the Huerfano County <br />Courthouse, 401 Main St. Walsenburg, CO 81089, and at the Division office.
