This meeting was attended by Gregg Squire, Reclamation <br />Specialist; James Stevens, Geologist; and Jim Pendleton, Mining Engineer <br />representing CMLRD; Michael Stanton, Safety and Health Specialist; Allyn <br />Davis, Mining Engineer, representing MSHA, and Joe Nugent, Chief Inspector, <br />Colorado Division of Mines. <br />Trapper Mining Company's request hoe been made pursuant to Articles 4.19 <br />Protection of Underground Mining, and 4.22 Concurrent Surface and <br />Underground Mining of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act, <br />seeking a variance to the 500-foot barrier, measured horizontally, that <br />shall be maintained between surface and underground mining activities. <br />Trapper Mining Company's permit revisions Noe. 1 and 2, dated February 20, <br />1987, and Empire Energy Corporation's permit revision No. 1, dated August <br />21, 1986, were reviewed to determine the extent of the mines that are <br />included within the 500-foot barrier and the time frame in which mining is <br />projected to occur within the barrier area. <br />Surface and underground mining plane of the two affected companies were <br />examined. These included: Trapper Mining Company's planned C-Pit area <br />overlying existing and proposed underground workings, and Empire Energy <br />Corporation's current and future mining projections in it's Eagle No. 5 and <br />No. 6 mines underlying and adjacent to areas of proposed surface mining. <br />Based upon this review and plans submitted to MS HA by Trapper Mining Company <br />on January 28, 1987, no health and safety hazards to surface or underground <br />mining activities other than those identified and adequately addressed in <br />article 2.2 of their C-Pit Permit Revision were identified. <br />
