III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
MEMO TO FILE
FILE #: C-81-044
OPERATOR: Cyprus-Empire
MINE: Eagle 5&9
DATE: May 18, 1992
REC SPEC: SFW
SUBJECT: MR-19
DISPOSAL OF OIL/SLUDGE SEPARATOR WATER
PERSONS CONTACTED: Terrel Johnson
HOW CONTACTED: Field, Phone
5/14: Terrel estimated that 4,000 gallons of water a
year have to be disposed of from sludge
filtered from their oil/water separator. One
proposal is to evaporate this water from the
sludge. Another is to separate the water from
the sludge by centrifical force and put the
water in one of the two approved waste
disposal areas.
5/18: I talked to Jim Pendleton and he has no
problem with the operator putting the water in
the disposal areas as long as:
1. The water is shown to contain no
toxic compounds
2. The water is distributed evenly about the refuse
area and does not puddle up.
I relayed this to Terrel and asked that if
Cyprus Empire does elect to chose the second
option, that they give us a memo referring to
Jim's concerns.
CC: JAP, LPR
