01-04-1994 11~37RM
O23CLU S IO[V 5
FROM SUMMITT OFFICE TO
•

13034285469 P.07
This report has reviewed several different mathematical models and
techniques for the calculatigp~ of a safety factor for slope walls,
and has presented values for a slope wall at the Spec-Agg pit•
These calculations also inclu c values that treat the aci.ded
load of the fill material on t~enclles. It should be notes. that
the fill material on the benches also provides an abutment load on
the toe of the slope which is an added factor to promote safe
slope walls. By far the most reliable values for the safety factor
are thoso that are a "back analyses" of the hard data from the
site specific observations in, or near, the Spec-Agg pit. Visual
observations of the structure and the geologic domain in the pit
are a continuing effort.of the mine personnel, and there have been
no changes in the wall with the exception of the fault that has
now been removed by mining over the life of the mine.
Western/Mobile shares the concerns expressed by Mr. York-Fei.cn in
his MLRB report and this report has addressed all Of his con~:erns.
The company will continue to use good, solid engineering and mining
practices to produce a viable product safely and in keeping with
State and Federal requirements.
Respectfully Submitted:
Robert H.
