Peter Matthies on August 16, 1994 to do an on
site of NCEC proposed reclamation work to be done at the mine. I
agreed with Mr. Matthies reclamation plan but would suggest a
drought resistant variety of alfalfa to be included in the dry land
seed mixture. This suggestion is primarily for deer providing a
higher nutritional food source during transitional periods (fall-
winter, winter-spring). I also requested revegetating the steeper
slopes with woody species which Mr. Matthies agreed to do. On those
particular reclaimed slopes the gradient is the same as existing
'topography. I also requested mulch to be used on the steeper
slopes to expedite revegetation.
Yh~.~espopse to reclamation of the terraces, I~sugsgested Rotrl
rerlaimiflg bank to original steeper slolpes frsr P1s7~pseS .o£ soi]~
Stab9:Ii.'ty, revegetation estabiisHme~t, and inroi~s'tvtre . i'~eNC3ot>a
A~.so sROa depti~,_.~yen on a north faciatt~~ scope .such as, times s%te,r
wi,il he reduced providing greater fAOd availability to winteringi
uegalates.
I felt NCEC had done a good job of back filling topsoil
material to an adequate thickness and had provided a good seedbed,
eliminating any compacted conditions which would inhibit
revegetation.
In conclusion I feel this proposed reclamation satisfies our
wildlife concerns by encouraging diversity of species as well as
providing improvement of wildlife habitat for.game species.
Since~~JyGI/.GL~
rry ~W'i 11
~ is 1ct Wildlife Manager
PW/lmp
xc: E.
