nom of os oa:2sP
Aus 31 2006 12:12
JILL HRNSEN
HP LRSERJET FAX
970-887-106s~ECE~V 3
NOV 0 1 2006
Division of Reclamatwn•
The rument raining operation has several plies of pit run anti Class C material that has ~I~~wing
out of it because it was mined and mixed incorrectly and can not be sold. The neighbors have been
advised by reputable persons knowledgeable: in gravel operations, that there is still plenty of gravel in
the current acreage of the existing pit to be mined and used correctly. It is not in the best interest of
the State, County, Tower of Granby, or surrounding property owners to allow Thompson's to expand
and be wasteful.
The residents of the platted subdivision of Great Divide Head Lettuce are also sending this letter to
oonose the renewal or approval of a new permit for the mine to expand. Please seethe attached
petition signed in ~ 9Q_9. The neighbors all believed the existing mine operation would be mined out
and reclaimed by next year. An expansion into an established agricultural residential neighborhood
where the East Grand County's only middle and high school are located was not realistic. 'Ihe noise,
dust, and silica have caused alarm in some parents due to noise end air pollution as well as safety
issues for the school children ifa new permit for expansion to the MESA is allowed.
We believe that Thompson Properties, Ted Pratt, and Sam Conger can't operate their current operation
pursuant to State and County regulations arrd definitely should not be allowed to expand aaa encroach
flrrttter into our water table. We respectfully request that the existing operation be inspected and that
the new encroachment be looked at prior to issuing a new permit. As the Stage is well aware, once
they hit the water table, it is too late.
Please feel free to contact one of the following spokespeople listed below with any further questions or
concerns.
Sincerely,
,~/ ~~
Great Divide Head Lettuce Homeowners
P4 Box 1785
Granby, CO 8044b-1785
Lisa A4irabito -Spokesperson 970-887-9319
BiII Hansen- Spokesperson 970-887-1Oti9
Note: Because this letter was a collaborative effort of the neighborhood, it had not been sent out today,
August 30, 2006. At g.00 p.m. tonight )ill and Sill Hansen visited the site and tookpictures where the
water has been standing all summer. There are now truck parked Shore and they worked all day to
cover up the ponds. We would be happy to show the State hydrologist our documentation and even ga
on a site visit because this blatant offense, which they advised the county was only drainage of rain
water, is now, literally as we type, "being covered u~~R".
