To:
Division of Minerals 8 Geology
1313 Sherman St
Denver. Co. 80203
From:
Don Blake
Lincoln County Land Use Administrator
P.O. Box 39
Hugo, Colo. 80821 phone 719-743-2337
Ref permit # M-1987-016
Dear Sirs;

~~C~~~,,~~~
A~,? ! 1 2:3~J1
U~vrsraa of ~+nerals and Geolo9Y
Lincoln County requests to reconfigure the above referenced permit area to enable better and more
efficient use of the area and to enable easier access with equipment. The present area is under a 110c
permit and is less than 10 acres, with a permitted size of 9.9 acres.
The original area was set up with a north to south run of 2400 feet in length and 180 feet wide in a
western to eastern direction, for a total of 9.917 acres. It takes up the creek area of the Vega Creek and
is used for road maintenance and repair. The creek is an ephemeral streambed that only has water in it
as run off occurs, and is not used during any of the flooding of the streambed. The removal of material
is in an eastward direction, with stock piling of material for reclamation.
We would like to reconfigure this area by releasing an area from the north edge of the permitted
area, south for 1040 feet, and 180 wide, for a total of 4.2 acres on the north. The area is undisturbed
and was reclaimed by the State. There are three stockpiles in the area, which were left at the request of
the landowner. From that point the new area would be 832 feet in a southward direction and 520 feet
wide across the creek bed. We would also be releasing the area south of the new boundary line for
another 528 feet in a southern direction and a 180 feet wide, for 2.1 acres. Total area to be release
would be 6.3 acres.
The new area is in the middle of the present permitted area, and is 340 feet wider than the original
180 feet, for the total of 520 feet wide and 832 foot in length, with the difference of 340 feet, wider than
the original 180 feet, or 2.2 acres more in a westerly to easterly direction, the total area would be 9.9
acres or the original permitted area.
This operation is also under a Department of the Army Corps of Engineers permit # 199880487,
requiring the county to meet certain conditions in regards to maintaining conditions with respect to the
operations and water. (See attachment page 4 of that permit.) A change in the location to the wider
part of the creek will not affect the over all operation and the required conditions will still be met. Special
consideration will be given to the slope of 4.1 on the banks and reclaiming the area. There will be no
increase in the amount of sand and gravel removed annually, and will remain at 7,500 cubic yard of
material from Vega Creek. No material will be removed while there is water in the creek.
Th kyou in Advance
Don Blake Land Use Admin.
