• EXHI•IT B
MINING PLAN
The Shaw pit will be mined for river-run alluvium, principally sand and gravel.
This mining will be under the terms of an MLRB regular 112 permit. The amount
of material to be removed annually will be in the range of 10,000 tons and will not
exceed 70,000 tons.
The proposed mining area lies on the banks of Two Bunes Creek on sections 13,23,
27. Flow in Two Buttes Creek is restricted to runoffs from snowmelt and localized
convective events. At the time of the site investigation in March 2,1984, Two Buttes
was dry. The site will not require an NPDES permit, as mining will be a dry operation.
The area to be mined will be points where gravel bars were deposited by flooding from
Two Buttes Creek in 1965.
The proposed operation is a small sand and gravel pit and will not remove any significa
amount of rangeland from production or interfere with grazing on other adjacent areas.
Total acreage will be 50 acres, including a haul road along the banks. Mining will take
place only during dry season. There is no topsoil to be removed at the Shaw pit. The n
process at this pit will take 3 to 6 years. The reason for the delay is the small amount o
mining activity that may occur except in years when substantial road repair is required
and a large of material is needed to maintain the roads. This may only occur one year i
five. Art area of 9.9 acres in size previotuly mined lies within ilte area of propose mini[
activity. A 600 cubic yard of cobble pile will be removed also.
Mining will be achieved by using afront-end loader and loading directly onto dump w
and [tucked off sit. The gravel deposits are approximately l0 feet deep. Groundwater
occurs at a depth of l2 feet and will not be affected. Mining will be proceed u~ a north
to south direction.
Some screening of the gravel will be requved
