To achieve this, a Tailings pH
Adjustment System has been incorporated into the plant design.
The tailings slurry pH is reduced from 11.1 to 8.5 - 8.9 by the
addition of sulfuric acid. The reaction between the acid and
residual sodium cyanide in the slurry generates highly toxic
hydrogen cyanide gas (HCN). The HCN evolved is captured by
scrubbing with sodium hydroxide solution, and the resulting sodium
cyanide returned to the leaching circuit. The system has been
designed to ensure that it is reliable and does not present any
danger to employees. This report analyzes the pcDtential for
hazards due to possible malfunction of equipment or controls, or
to errors by operators.
i ~ ^-
C N / 5 ~ ~'
h
~~
~~
~~
pj/1475rp 012591 1'1
~,
