The following
list is not complete but includes some of the items which
will require regular attention:
^ checking belt tensions and alignment of drives,
^ checking drive guards,
^ inspection of rubber linings in tanks and Hoppers,
^ inspecting and tightening of flanges in pipes and ducts,
^ calibration of pH meters,
^ replacement of sensing heads in HCN detectors, according
to manufacture r's recommendations,
^ calibration of HCN monitor in scrubber stack, following
J manufacturer's recommended procedures,
8.2 SAFE TY PROCEDURES
J Specific procedures will be developed by BMaC for safe
access to and maintenance of equipment in the pH Adjustment
System.
J Potential hazards exist in exposure of personnel to residual
concentrations of HCN gas in tanks and vessels on which
~~ maintenance is to be performed. No operations or
maintenance personnel should enter any tank or other
enclosure in the Tailings pH Adjustment Systefi until the
prescribed safety procedures have been carried out and the
area certified as safe. At no time should any Fperson carry
out inspection or maintenance work inside tanks without the
knowledge and presence of a second person.
,} Procedures required to purge all residual traces of HCN from
tanks and hoppers include:
^ open drain valves to dump slurry to sumps,
' ^ thoroughly wash out vessel to remove all residual
slurry,
^ open access hatches and thoroughly purge the vessel
using forced ventilation.
J
pj/1517rp 012591 8-1
J
t
