~. ..
6.3 HCN DETECTION EQUIPMENT
Hydrogen cyanide gas (HCN) detectors are located as follows:
AE/AT 900/1 pH Adjustment Tank (04-TK-09)
AE/AT 900/2 Tailings Hopper (04-HP-02)
AE/AT 900/3 pH Adjustment Fume Scrubber (04-SR-O1)
The detectors are set to indicate an alarm on the operator's
graphic display at a concentration of HCN in air of 5 ppm.
(The TLV for HCN for a normal 8-hour workday is 10 ppm, and
the odor threshold 2-5 ppm). Each detector is fitted with
a local alarm horn, which sounds when the HCN concentration
reaches 5 ppm.
In addition, a continuous measurement of HCN concentration
in the air discharged from the scrubber is pYovided by a
sensor (AE/AT900/10) located in the scrubber stack. The
output of this sensor is available on the graphic
display. The range is 0-50 ppm HCN.
J
J

pj/1481rp 012591
6-4
