• ~ks and Gesso, LLC
Toosoil Preservation
Topsoil stockpiled in berms for later use in revegetation will be placed on a stable
surface within the permit area and will be clearly marked. Temporary vegetation
will be planted on these topsoil stockpiles to protect them from disturbances
associated with the mining operation, wind and water erosion, compaction or
other disturbances that would reduce its capability to support permanent
reclamation vegetation. The berms will be broadcast seeded and will remain in
place for the I'rfe of the mine. They will be constructed with a minimum 3:1 slope
and require approximately 15,000 cubic yards.
Topsoil Placement
Approximately 1 ft. (12 inches) of topsoil will be placed on all disturbed level
areas around the reservoir. Contour furrows will be established on the shoreline
slopes to reduce erosion and encourage stable plant growth. Topsoil will be
smoothed-out along the shoreline and furrowed as seedbed in preparation for
successful native grass seeding and growth.
Due to the loose and permeable nature of the sand and gravel over the slightly
disturbed pit edges (containing the slurry wall), ripping or scarifying of the
disturbed ground will not be required. Disking of the topsoil may be required due
to compaction while in storage. If necessary, this will be performed prior to
seeding.
Reveoetation
All surface areas disturbed by mining activities will be topsoiled and drill-seeded
for final reclamation with the seed mix shown in Tables E-1. This mix was
developed based on correspondence between the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA) and the Division of Minerals and Geology during the approval
process for the original Regular 112 Permit. Seeding and subsequent
maintenance will be carried out in accordance with the original
recommendations.
An access road will be maintained around the perimeter of the reservoir for
maintenance access. The access road will not be revegetated.
Stepeooach Mine - Regular 112 Pertnk 01045
Mabtb Remh Canaete Inc i 1 Norxnber, 2007
