F-
1,
On page 2.05.4-24R6, it is stated that if the No. 9 Portal and refuse pile are not returned
to cropland, they would be returned to pastureland, and adjacent fields cunently mapped
as cropland would be used as the reference azea. On page 2.05.4-25R it is stated that "the
same revegetation success criteria methodology that was described for rangeland/wildlife
habitat will be used for pastureland." Some demonstration of reference area suitability
will be necessary, and the vegetation map will need to be appropriately updated to
reference dryland pasture rather than cropland, and to delineate the dryland pasture
reference area. Also, does the statement on page 2.05.4-25R imply that the woody plant
density standazd as well as the diversity standazd specified for rangeland also apply to
pastureland? This should be clarified in the text.
Table 67A indicates that the No. 9 Portal and adjacent azea would be reclaimed to either
grain or hay cropland, but does not mention the alternative of dryland pasture. My
understanding was that the potential postmining uses for this azea were either small grain
dryland cropland or dryland pastureland, but not hay cropland. This needs to be clarified.
24. Map 20 should be amended to accurately depict the elevationally based range sites within
the Utah Tract, consistent with the narrative description of the range sites, if that is the
appropriate range site delineation as outlined in the Trapper permit. However, some
explanation should be provided for why the range sites were originally delineated as they
aze on the current Map 20.
25. Page 2.05.4-16R was appropriately amended to address the designated plant growth media
in the vicinity of the SA Portal.
Please propose the location of a general sign that can be placed azound topsoil substitute
material.
Please contact Dan Mathews at the Grand Junction Field Office prior to responding to these
concerns. Dan can be reached at (970) 242-5025. The revision decision due date has recently
been extended to Mazch 11, 1997.
Please call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
~'~.
