EXHIBIT "D"
MINING PLAN
This conversion amounts to an expansion of an old existing sand and gravel pit currently permitted
under a ] 10 permit, File No. M-79-1 `8. Information available indicates that this was opened as eazly
as 1965 and probably earlier. At that time, it was called the Dodge Pit. When Colorado City
purchased this property, it was purchased as an existing pit. The aggregate mined from this pit has
been used primarily for the roads in Colorado City and the Pueblo County road system in the area.
Although the eastern part of the pit was mined pre-law, it will be included in this permit amendment
and reclaimed accordingly.
(a) description of the method(s) of mining to be employed in each stage of the operation as
related to any surface disturbance on affected lands.
The mining methods will continue as in the past. Front-end loaders and dozers will be used to
excavate the aggregate and transport it to a portable crusher for processing and stockpiling.
(b) earthmoving
earthmoving will consist of removing and stockpiling the topsoil on the pit perimeters for
replacement in reclamation. The limited overburden will be used in road base material being
processed for use in the area. Front-end loaders and dozers will be the primary pieces of equipment
used, both in the stripping and replacement of the topsoil in reclamation.
(c) all water diversions and impoundments
This will be operated as a dry pit with no affect on water rights or hydrology of the area. There will
be no impoundments as such. At the east end of the pit, there is a small wetlands area that was
created sometime eazly in this operation, prior to the applicant's purchase of this property, that will
remain undisturbed.
(d) the size of the area(s) to be worked at any one time
This will be an ongoing operation being worked on a floating bond basis, and no phasing is planned.
It is anticipated that a maximum of 1-1/2 to 2.0 acres will be worked at any one time. This is a ]ow-
volume operation with production averaging less than 100,000 tpy annually.
