Reclamation Costs
In calculating the estimated reclamation costs, four cost models were run. Two were on Phase 1
and Stage 1 only. The other two were on all of Phase 1. Each of the two models within each of the major
model pazameters assumed different amounts of reclamation being completed. In one case, all the planned
reclamation is completed. In the other case only half the planned reclamation is completed. Phase 2,
because it is so faz in the future, was not included. Here are descriptions of some of the categories.
Tree Planting (visible benches only): The azea of visible benches, derived from the visual impact ,,,, ,
analysis done for the county special use permit, was estimated. Using a 40% survival rate and a desired
average final tree density on the benches of 40 trees per acre, the number of tree seedlings needed was ~ ~ ~'
calculated. A value of $3.00 per tree for purchase (State Forest Service) and planting was tsed.
Bench Staining (visible benches only): This is difficult to estimate accurately. Within the visible portions
of the quazry, the vertical surface area of the bench walls was calculated. Multiplying that ley 1.5 provides
a roughness factor that increases the actual surface area beyond that which would occur if it was a smooth
plane. Mottled patterns of stain produce the best effects and it was assumed that 60% of th~~ total surface
area is stained. The cost per square foot is based on using Petmeon, using a 4:1 dilution, iccluding
application.
Quarry Floor: This is a straightforward calculation involving ripping, topsoiling, and seed,ng.
Indirect Costs: Using an 18% indirect cost factor the cost of contractor profit, setup, and 1)MG
administrative costs were added. 1
All land contigtuation calculations (areas, bench lengths, etc.) were based on models prep:ved in
AutoCAD LT and AutoSketch.
The selected reclamation cost model is an average of the two for all of Phase 1.
The estimated reclamation cost, based upon this model, is $176,136.15 , 0 / ~ tb"v~ •'
