A review of the application has identified some issues that
need to be corrected or clarified. Please respond to the following:
1) In the Mine Plan, Part (a) the acreage for Phase 1 is stated as 34.1 acres. It appears as if this
includes the 9.4 acres in the 110 permit. For clarity, please verify that when discussing Phase 1
it includes the current disturbance as well.
2) In the Mining Plan, Part (d), the plan states that 20 acres wilt be the approximate size of the pit.
However, statements indicate that Phase 1 will be mined prior to initiation of reclamation, which
is 34.1 acres. Please clarify the extent of proposed active mining area and the areas that will be
under reclamation at any given time.
3) Please clarify whether there will be any on site storage of fuels and oils.
4) In the Reclamation Plan, it is noted that mulching will be carried out. Please indicate what
materials will be used and in what quantities. For example, 1.S tons of straw or hay.
S) Please specify the probable type and method of fertilization. Will it be a granular type of
nitrogen-based fertilizer and how much per acre?
6) Please indicate the method to be used for seeding. Will it be drill seeded, hand broadcast or
some other method?
7) A review of the proposed seed mix indicates3 introduced species of grass and 1 native. The
Division and other agencies prefer more natives than introduced species. The Division suggests
a mix of Sand Drop seed, Western Wheatgrass, Great Basin Wild rye, and Galleta. These are all
natives, 2 are cool species and 2 are warm which makes a better seasonal cover. However, you
may wish to consult the BLM and other sources for seed mixes, which have proven successful in
your area.
8) Please supply Division staff with a copy of the Public Notice under publication so the comment
period can be properly noted.
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
