5. The applicant states that there is no way to tell how many acres will require topsoil replacement and
revegetation efforts. The applicant will need to estimate the acreage of affected land (as noted above), so it
can be property accounted for in the reclamation cost estimate.
6. The applicant states that the stockpile on the northeast comer of the site will be reclaimed and meet the
standards of Rule 6. The applicant will need to provide a more specific reclamation plan for the waste pile.
For example, will the pile be returned to the pit (as previously stated by the applicant), or left in place? If the
pile is left in place, the applicant will need to provide engineered designs for placement of the fill pile and
provide a geotechnical stability exhibit as required by Rule 6.5 of the Construction Material Rules and
Regulations.
7. Please estimate the amount of fill that will be added to the existing piles during the life of the mine.
Under Rule 3.2(7) the Division is required to conduct an inspection prior to Board consideration. The Division
will schedule an inspection prior to the decision date. Additional questions may arise as a result of the inspection.
Please be advised that the Brownstone Quarry Conversion Application may be deemed inadequate, and the
application may be denied on August 13, 2007 unless the above-mentioned adequacy review items are addressed
to the satisfaction of the Division. If you feel more time is needed to complete your reply, the Division can grant
an extension to the decision date. This will be done upon receipt of a written waiver of your right to a decision by
August 13, 2007 and request for additional time. This must be received no later than the deadline date.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Sinc y,
S~
Erica Crosby
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Carl Mount; DRMS
Vic Norris
