The amendment would allow filling of the Pollyanna Mann
gravel mine using overburden soils from the Howe Pit. All haul routes would be internal
to the mining pit boundaries with a crossing of Brighton Road at approximately the 115x`
Avenue alignment.
Material generated from a mine whose business is to extract and supply gravel, sand, and
soils are not generally considered waste materials. This Department considers the
material from the Howe Pit appropriate for filling the M&G Pit.
The State Division of Minerals and Geology approved the change in reclamation of the
M&G Pit from an open pit with exposed groundwater to a filled area in March of 2005, in
Technical Revision Number 5.
Based upon our review, this Department approves Lafazge West, Inc.'s application for
minor amendment to the M&G Pit allowing filling with material from the Howe Pit.
Please be advised, Brighton Road at this location is under the City of Commerce City's
jurisdiction and the crossing at approximately 115th Ave. alignment will require the
City's approval.
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
W.
