1. Provided the analysis is conducted at pH 10.5-11.5 then a1T of the
CN measured is all that is available. It will be in the form of CN-
and WAD. All Zn WAD will be accounted for, 1/3 of Cu WAD, 1/10 of
' Au CN. Thus free CN can only be calculated once an accurate Zn, Cu
and Au soluble content is known.
2. Any analyses conducted on tailings where the pH is 8.5 or less will
be quite inaccurate since the principal cyanide phase is HCN. Then
as oscillating equilibrium is set-up as described below:
' HCN + AgNO3 <--> AgCN + N0~ + (H`)
The moment that nitrate is complexed an H~ ion is generated which
' then strips the CN from AgCN to form HCN again.
This topic must be further discussed and a fixed procedure set in
' place.
D. CONCLUSIONS
' 1. Cytox should be able to remove approximately 96X of free CN from the
tailings at an estimated cost of $0.07 - $0.14 per ton of ore.
2. BEI is strongly confident that it can develop a low-cost method of
' removing Cu from the pond.
3. BEI is further of the belief that it can install a low cost
' continuous method, once the pond is rid of Cu and CN, of maintaining
very low (Tess than 10 pm) levels of Cu and CN in the pond.

1
1

BE/
1
1
