Sodium Bisulfate Technical Grade
with SBS, alkaline hydrolysis will occur with ammonium sulfate releasing
ammonia gas. SBS is used a[ about 5 lbs. per 1,000 lbs. of paper processed.
Remediation Acidifier
Contaminated dirt containing PCB's was cooked a[ 600 degrees and treated
with potassium hydroxide and polyethylene glycol. The temperature was then
turned uD to 1,000 degrees. This formed [he metal salt which broke off the
chlorine atoms from the PCB molecule. The residual soil (silty ash) was [hen
spread out over the ground at a 3-12 inch thickness with a bulldozer. SBS was
applied at the rate of 10.5 lbs. per ton of soil and ro[otilled. This was sufficient
to reduce the pH from 11 to 6. The treated soil was [hen taken to a local
shoreline where it was mixed with fertilizers and used in the planting of pine
trees.
Resist Treatment Powder
SBS can be used as a constituent In compounds to treat aqueous and semi-
aqueous pho[oresis[ s[riDDers and developers. The products act to neutralize
the alkalinity of the stripper, coagulates [he stripped resist, hardens and
detacks the particles, and buffers the treated solution to a dischargeable pH.
Soil Amendment
Neutralizes alkaline soils for construction projects. SBS has been used as a
direct additive to soil [o adjust pH to a neutral or acceptable level before
building permits are approved. In this use SBS is generally tilled into the soil
at the rate of 16,000 to 24,000 lbs. per acre tleDentling on soil type. Tilling
depth is 12 inches. This application reduces the pH a factor of 2 (for example:
from a pH of 8.5 to 6.5). I[ is recommended to spread SBS dry, disc it in and
irrigate.
Sulfamic Acid Replacement
SBS can be a substitute for sulfamic acid in many situations. SBS costs less
and is produced in the United States. Some uses include: descaling solutions,
water treatment, compounding and most low pH requirements.
Swimming Pool Chemical
SBS is used for pH reductibn in swimming pools and spas. SBS is the safes[
product to use for home and institutional pools and spas. Usually, 1.2 lbs.
applied in a 10,000 gallon pool will reduce the pH. If after one or two hours
the pH is above 7.8, repeat the treatment until the pH is between 7.2 and 7.6.
Swimming pool repackers package SBS in 1-10 Ib. packages.
Water Treatment
SBS is used as a descaler in boilers, cooling towers, and water lines. SBS
cleans and adjusts pH. If there is a need for effluent treatment of an alkaline
substance, SBS is recommended.
What Industries Use Sodium Bisulfate (SBS)?
• Chemical Distributors
• Metal Treating
• Swimming Pool
• Chemical Manufacturing
• Cleaning Compounds
• Agriculture
• Water Treatment
About ~ Pr u _ I Environmental/Safe[v I Emolovment Opportunities I Contact
New; I Links I Home I Leaal Disdamer
Copyright ?2002 tones-Hamilton Co.
