During the course of our tour, we viewed several piles of
boulders in mixed sizes of 6" to 30" .
These two properties have gravel deposits that are blessed with
large numbers of such boulders. We have been using many of these
boulders to construct erosion control features on both properties.
Boulders have also been sold from these properties for many uses in
the metro area.
The boulders from these properties are particularly attractive in
both shape and color. We have endeavored to save as many of them
as possible. Our intention in saving them is to use them on the
properties during reclamation, and for the construction of
landscaping and drainage features once the mining reclamation is
complete.
Until the mining is complete, we won't have a clear idea of the
number of piles to be left, but I don't expect that there will be
more than fifteen piles over the entire 250 acre mining area. The
current piles are fairly small as we have felt it is better to have
somewhat more piles, both for proximity to future possible uses,
and for a lower profile until the boulders are used.
We would like, as the landowner of both properties, and the
operator of the Turnpike Pit, to have these piles become part of
the approved reclamation plans for both properties.
Very truly yours,
