J-
15. 6.3.2 EJCHIBIT B -SITE DESCRIPTION
The following addresses specific sites for the proposed excavations. Each site is scoped to be larger
than the intended excavation by approximately 1/3. This is necessary to allow for the footprint of
heavy machinery, storage piles for topsoil, and possible excavation of pegmatite leads.
Although excavations and total disturbance will be less than 60 percent of the requested disturbance,
the previous permit did not adequately allow for contingencies, and it became clear in order to properly
operate, a new permit was needed.
Most of the sites, particulazly those on the SMOKY HAWK, BLUE SMOKY, and SMOKY DOG,
have been extensively disturbed through previous hand digging. Our operation will reclaim adjacent
hand-dug areas.
General:
The entire region in which these claims are located was burned by the Hayman fire of 2002. Damage
throughout the area ranges from light burned to severely burned. All sites covered by this permit
application were burned. Some areas are recovering rapidly. Others remain ban•en, scorched soil.
Timber damage in some areas was light and the remaining trees aze recovering. Most areas have
completely burned timber in which only snags remain. Many snags aze rotted and presently toppling.
6.3.2 Ll Soils:
Most of the soils in the excavation sites were sterilized and little duff nor organic material remains.
Generally the granitic soils in this region aze not highly subject to erosion. The scattered bunch
grasses, shrubs, and timber serve to adequately trap the precipitation, even heavy downpours, and
enable the moisture to soak in and not run off heavily. Due to the fire, a large areas have a "baked
surface" which the rain cannot penetrate. Runoff coming off these areas can be heavy and can cause
some erosion problems.
6.3.2 (bl Structures:
No permanent man-made structures exist within these sites.
6.3.2 (c) Water resources:
Crystal Creek is situated 165 feet lower in elevation and at least 825 feet to the northeast of the closest
site on the SMOKY DOG, ELK HORN, and SMOKY HAWK claims. An unnamed, intermittent
tributary of Crystal Creek is situated 140 feet lower in elevation and at least 780 feet to the southwest
of the closest site on the WOLF FANG and BLUE SMOKY claims. There is no other surface water
located on these claims. None of the excavations will penetrate the water table. None of the
excavations will produce any drainage or discharge of any type.
