D-2
Exhibit D -Mining Plan
The next phase for the amended Hazeltine facility, which includes all the properties
described in Exhibit A is to transition the area to a WR designation or surface water storage
facility.
The current mining is nearly complete on the original Hazeltine property, and the remaining
material may be removed in the future to increase the storage capacity. Parcels A & B (refer
to Exhibit F) will provide a source of granular material to "dress" the interiors slopes of the
completed reservoirs below normal high water line. This slope protection will prevent
erosion of the underlying clay materials during reservoir fluctuations. Material may also be
removed from the site to increase the capacity of the water storage reservoir, or to facilitate
installation of necessary water control facilities.
Interior slopes will be constructed to 3:1 (Horizontal: Vertical). Some of the existing slopes
below the current water surface appear to be steeper than 3:1. After the pits aze dewatered
these slopes will reconstructed if necessazy and graded to a minimum of 3:1 using materials
from Parcels A and B.
Pazcel C is an area encumbered by the South Platte River. Although some removal of
material may take place, the primary reason for including this parcel the amended permit is to
accommodate the slun-y wall as discussed later in Exhibit E -Reclamation Plan.
Parcel D is an area included in the A. F. & Sons Subdivision and was part of the original
property purchase by Denver Water and South Adams. Some material in this Parcel will be
removed. However, this area provides access to the completed water storage facility, and
may include facilities necessary for reservoir operations. The Parcel is included in the
amendment in order to accommodate construction of the slurry wall as discussed later in
Exhibit E -Reclamation Plan.
Parcel E was also part of the Hazeltine property purchase. Some material will be removed
from this area. The primary reason for including this Parcel in the amendment is to
accommodate construction of the slurry wall as discussed later in Exhibit E -Reclamation
Plan.
The embankment between Hazeltine Pit and the pit immediately north of Hazeltine known as
Road Runner's Rest II (Mining Permit M-1979-195) will be removed, resulting in a
continuous storage reservoir. This removal is required because of a new CLOMR filed by
Adams County and approved by FEMA. These two properties are in the South Platter River
Flood Plain and the embankment between these two pits needs to be removed to allow an
increase flood stage caused by the construction of the 120`" Avenue extension project.
The embankment between the Brinkmann-Woodward Pit and Road Runner's Res[ II (Mining
Permit M-1979-195) will be removed resulting in a continuous storage reservoir. This
removal is required because of a new CLOMR filed by Adams County and approved by
FEMA and because of construction of the 120`h Ave. extension project.
