Tice neighbors have been
advised by reputable persons knowledgeable in grave! operations, that there is still plenty of gravel in
the current acreagti of the existing pit to be mined and used correctly. It is ant in the best interest of
the State, County, Town of Granby, or surrounding properly owacrs to allow Thompson's to expand
and be wasteful.
The residents of the platted subdivision of Great Divide Head Lettuce are also sending this letter to
os the renewal or approval of a new permit for the micro to expend. Please see the attached
petition signed in X99. The neighbors all be&ved the existing mine operation would be mined out
and reclaimed by next year. An expansion into an established agricultural residential neighborhood
where the East (nand County's only middle and high school are located was not realistic. The noise,
dust, and silica have caused alarm in some parents due to noise end air pollution as well as safety
issues for the school children if a new permit for expansion to the MESA is allowed.
We believe that Thompson Properties, Ted Platt, and Sam Conger can't operate their cturerlt operation
pursuant to State and County regulations and definitely should not be allowed to expand and encroach
titrther into our water table. We respectfully request that the existing operation be inspected and that
the sew encroachment be looked at prior to issuing a new permit. As the State is wel! aware, once
they hit the water table, it is mo late.
Please feel flee to contact one of the following spokespeople listed below with any further questions of
concerns.
Sincerely,
a~~=
Great Divide Head Lettuce Homeowners
PO Borr ] 785
Granby, CO 80A46-1785
Lisa Mirabito -Spokesperson 970-887-9319
Bill Hessen-Spokesperson 970.887-1Oti9
Note: $ecause this letter was a collaborative effort of the neighborhood, it had not been sent out today,
August 30, 200ti. At S_00 p.m. tonight )ill and Bill Hansen visited the site and tookpictures where the
water has been standing all summer. There are now truck parkod there and thry worked ell day to
cover uP the ponds. We would be happy to show the Stale hydrologist our doctrmentation and even go
oa a site visit because this blatant offense, which they advised the county was only drainage of rain
water, is now, literally as we type, "being covered up"
