The proposed mine is
known as Everist Materials, Mascot Placer Operation, and is located at or near Section
24, Township 6 South, Range 77 West, 6th Principal Meridian.
This permit change should not be approved for a number of reasons. Rock crushing at
the Mascot Placer has significant potential to:
1. Affect safety on Tiger Toad from gravel hauling large trucks
2. Shift the Swan Valley from residential /recreational to industrial
3. Increase noise and dust pollution in the Swan Valley
4. Compromise the advantages of Open Space and Backcountry
5. Decrease serenity of the valley and the opportunity to view wildlife
6. Adversely affect property values as a result of the industrial effects
Moreover, rock crushing is incompatible with the County Master Plan and the Upper
Blue Master Plan. Tiger Rd is multi-use with pedestrians, bicyclist, and horses and
provides access to the Colorado Trail. Tiger Rd is designed for low volume use only and
has insufficient width in the upper portions of the road for two trucks and pedestrians to
co-exist at one location.
Sincerely,
David Burch
