• •
Base Products
Tony F. Appelhanz
62339 W. LaSalle Rd.
Montrose, CO 81401
970-249-3061
EXHIBIT D
MINING PLAN
In 1993 this site supplied gravel for the New Montrose Airport. 1 intend to continue
marketing gravel directly from this site as before. This site has enough gravel to last many years.
Location is close to development here and will not impact neighbors. f intend to have crushed
gravel available to those that require it.
The area to be mined is a mesa that has a natural 1:1 slope to the east. The amended
portion needs to be added In order to best use this area and make it look well. Wben this pit
was first planned there was no gravel pit in this area. When this neighboring pit is completed.
the portion shown on the map, to be amended will be left high and dry. If mined out to match
neighboring pit, water will run by gravity from source. The flat areas left after mining can be
Irrigated, and grass planted to use for pasture etc. Fences will be on same level and easy to
maintain. I plan to slope and seed banks the same as before. as material is removed, NOT
LATER. Correction is expensive and difficult to obtain after material is gone, but the sloped
linear distance will be less than the area permitted before. The entire area will fit into the
landscape and look well.
Before the dams were built in the area, this area was very arid. The water allocation was
directed by the Bureau of Reclamation by soil classification. The area close to the rim has the
least overburden almost none. As the distance increases from the rim, the depth of overburden
also increases. There should be enough to put on pit for grass. By channeling waste water to
these areas from land owned south of these areas, the grass can do well and any silt contained
in this water will stop in the grass. The thickness of the deposit should be 30 to 40 feet. The
man made structures(Delta-Montrose Electric Association)which have been relocated, will also
add to the overall Improvement of mined area.
The entrance road will remain the same as in permit before amended, because the
amended portion follows the original direction of mining.
Since I am part owner, if water is needed for dust control it will be available on a year
round basis from decreed water owned out of Mexican Gulch, used to irrigate the bottom lands
of this property.
