Cattany, Director
Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining & Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
(303)866-3567
FAX (303) 832-8106
Dear Mr. Cattany:
~z
~~, ~~
v~'EB 0 5 ~OAI
t)iV1S1gn pf bi~;,4~.na;d
-~11 Minln9 eFd ~~,~,
This letter constitutes notice that Bridges ofHealth, a 501(c)(3) organization in
Colorado's San Luis Valley, objects to the proposed Permit Amendment, DRMS Permit
No. M-88-~ 2, filed by Battle Mountain Gold in October 2006.
We contest the assertion by Battle Mountain Gold, now a division of Newmont
Mining, that the West Pit water is now ofpre-mining quality, and request that an
assessment of that water's quality by an independently chosen testing laboratory be
required. The process for selecting the testing laboratory should be made by an
independent body not subject to political or financial pressure by either party-those who
contest the permit and Battle Mountain Gold. The process should be worked out under
the guidance of a mediator/facilitator from a reputable professional organization.
We fear contamination of the farmland, and the resulting consequences to the
general health of the area population. The contested location is adjacent to the K-12
school and the Town of San Luis.
Sincerely,
i
Shamaan Eagle, N.D.
Vice President
