A list of these <br />, methods and their applicab le method numbers is given as Appendix C. <br /> Appropriate and specified methods for WAD cyanide would be ASTM <br />' <br />~ Method "C" or APHA/AWWA Standard Methods, 17th Edition, Method <br /> 4500-CN only, modified to account for the nature of the tailings <br />matrix and presence of sulfide, nitrate and thiocyanat~. <br />5.3 Ounlity Control <br />The details of the quality control procedures to be used by the <br />analytical laboratory are contained in their standard operating <br />' procedures (SOP), the relevant parts of which are presented in <br />Appendix A. These quality control procedures are based on, and <br />developed from, the principles described in Chapter 1, USEPA/OSWER <br />' SW-846 (1986, 3rd Edition). <br />Appendix A includes descriptions of protocols for the ahalysis of <br />reference standards, matrix spiking and recovery analyses, analysis <br />of duplicate samples, and analysis of field and rinsate blanks, <br />together with methods for the assessment of the data so glenerated. <br />Appendix D gives the limits required under the analytical <br />laboratory quality control procedures for: <br />(1) Upper and lower acceptance methods for analysis of <br />' reference standards for each analytical parameter and for <br />each analytical method; <br />' (2) Upper and lower acceptance limits for matrix spiking <br />' recovery analyses for each analytical parameter and for <br />each analytical method; <br />1 <br />' -35- <br /> <br />
